Nursing Student Loans - Nursing School Loans
As a whole, the US is starting to experience a shortage of registered nurses. Of course, there are certain areas that have been hit more severely. The RN shortage will continue to grow if current trends such as a growing and aging population, the high demand for quality care, an RN workforce at or approaching retirement age, and difficulty attracting new nurses and retaining the current workforce. Thus, the need for funding to help attract potential candidates for nursing student loans.
You can apply for this type of loan at the student financial aid office of any school you are attending or are planning to enroll for study.
A Nursing Student Loans program will provide a long-term and low interest loan for a full-time or half time needy student seeking a course of study leading to a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing.
It is the participating schools responsibility to select the nursing school loan recipient as well as determine the amount of assistance the student will require.
To apply for this type of nursing student loan, you need to seek a school that is participating in the nursing school loan program. You should be eligible if you are:
A citizen, national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or the Marianas Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guam, the American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated State of Micronesia.
Of course, there is also a federal nursing loan program available. You will simply need to complete the FAFSA (Federal Application for Federal Student Aid). You must also be accepted into the MHCC Nursing Loan Program. Once you have been offered this loan, you must complete the Nursing Loan Entrance Counseling. This requirement needs to be completed each year you take out a Federal Nursing Student Loan.
AUGUST 5 UPDATE:
I recently read a government report on the shortage of nurses. It is really becoming a problem for the medical industry and professionals. It would not be surprising if the government creates additional incentives to increase our Nurse population. Perhaps one day, Nursing student loans might be able to be waived in full. You never know.
